The Golden Paws Foundation Inc. is a 501c3 Non-Profit that trains Golden Retrievers as Therapy Dogs for Behavioral Health Agencies all over Arizona. Experts have found mental health challenges and psychiatric disorders are known to respond well to Therapy dogs. Patients are diagnosed with a range of issues, such as depression, bipolar disorder, autism, ADHD, (PTSD), and even Alzheimer's. Our dogs provide comfort and emotional support to people in need. They are trained to be gentle and friendly and to accept strangers hugging them or petting them. They are patient and unbothered by children who tug at their fur or adults who want the smaller ones to sit in their laps. 

Therapy Dogs  

People confuse Therapy Animals with Service Dogs.  

• Service Dog – A Service dog is an animal trained to do tasks for a person with a physical or mental disability. These tasks must be connected to how the person is able to function. The service dog works to compound, support, and assist these activities or mitigate the person’s impairment.   
   
• Therapy Dog - A therapy animal is most commonly a dog (but can be other species) that has been obedience trained and screened for its ability to interact favorably with humans and other animals. The primary purpose of a therapy animal is to provide affection and comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, schools, hospices, disaster areas, and to people with learning difficulties.
